MORE ABOUT WHY WE ARE ASKING FOR DONATIONS

Funding FAQs about The Stranger's Guide To Talliston short film

WHY DO YOU NEED EXTRA FUNDING?

Budgets were assigned to create a short film showcasing both the house's thirteen extraordinary rooms and the opening scenes of the novel. Auditions were held for the lead role. A director was found. The script was written and production began. Unfortunately our 11-year-old star’s child license could not exceed sx hours filming on any given day – and our shooting schedule doubled. This meant all our costs doubled too including director, cameraman and crew – and we had a choice: to curtail the project or ask for support.

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH MY DONATION?

The traditional routes of filmmaking come with natural limitations. Third-party financing always requires investors, something that is simply not possible with online short films, which we want to distribute to as many people as possible. The Film Fifty will not only provide us the ability to make this film as true to our vision as possible, but also allow backers to get involved in the process.

THE WRITER

John Tarrow is creative director at Talliston House & Gardens and author of four novels. He was born in London and spent his childhood with a Smith-Corona Calypso typewriter and a wild imagination, both of which he still owns. His fascination with folk and faerie tales has taken him around the world, gathering threads of story and legend to weave into his own mythologies. As creative lead at Talliston, he went on a 25-year journey to transform the UK’s most ordinary house into “Britain’s Most Extraordinary Home” (The Times).
